Dissident Gets “Goodwill Wishes” from CCP

Beijing dissident Dai Qing was suppressed by the CCP
(Chinese Communist Party) authorities for a long time,
as she participated in the 1989 Tiananmen Square protest.

Recently, she received goodwill wishes
from her former company Guangming Daily.
They told her that they wanted to process
her pension and health insurance.
Over 21 years, this is the first time that her company
showed some concern about her.
As this is a very unusual move,
outsiders are debating about it.
People are most concerned whether this is an isolated case,
or a sign of policies change by the new leaders.

Dai Qing is a Beijing dissident writer who was suppressed
for participating in the 1989 Tiananmen Square protest.
Recently, she received an unexpected call
from her former workplace Guangming Daily.
They claimed that they would like to process her pension,
which surprised her.

Dai Qing told NTD that after “June 4th 89,”
she has been detained for investigation for 10 months.
Later, she was forcibly dismissed by Zhang Changhai,
an editor-in-chief at that time.
For 21 years, she lived without a salary.

Several years ago, Dai Qing had a heart attack,
and went to Guangming Daily's contract hospital.
She was refused treatment as she is no longer related
to Guangming Daily.

In May, Dai's mother passed away, and she went
to Guangming Daily to check her personal profile.
But Dai was rejected and told, her file has been moved
to the Human Resources Centre.
Dai wrote four complaining letters to Guangming Daily,
for moving her profile without her approval and signature.

Dai Qing said that now their attitude suddenly changed,
but what she wanted is the truth.

Dai Qing: “I didn't accept their so-called kindness.
First, my own conscience and self-esteem don't accept it.
Second, my case is a simple one,
and they made such a mess out of it.
In this society, many people suffer much more, deeper,
and longer, how are their problems going to be solved?”

Chen Ziming is a constitutional scholar who has been jailed
for 13 years for joining the Tiananmen Square protest.
Chen said, he has never received
some form of a goodwill expression from the authorities.

Chen Ziming: “There are many similar cases. Take Gao Yu
for example, no one sent goodwill wishes to her yet.
Thus, this (Dai Qing's) instance
is an isolated case.”

Zhou Duo is a Beijing independent scholar, who is known
as one of the four heroes of the Tiananmen Square protest.
Zhou told Voice of America that he could sense
some ease in the political atmosphere.

Writer Tie Liu said, before the 18th CCP congress, he opened
a microblog account, which was blocked in 10 days.
This is because he supported four young men
in Zhengzhou, who tore Mao's portrait.
After the 18th congress, he opened new
microblog accounts on Tencent and Sina weibos.
He is still criticizing Mao,
yet, until now they haven't been blocked.

Dai Qing: “I think any society with major conflict and hatred,
is best to solve it like what Archbishop Desmond Tutu says: Truth, Justice and Pacification.
First, they must disclose the truth, then we make judgments,
who is right or wrong, and finally there will be a solution.”

Dai believes, new leaders need to change their left Maoist
mentality, and follow the principles of Truth, Justice, and Pacification, recognized by the international society.
And to solve problems from the history, like the June 4th
massacre, as those problems can't be ignored.

Independent commentator, Xing Tianxing said, the CCP
always forms “united front,” when it encounters crisis.
It would make some people feel better,
giving them some false hope.
However, in a short time,
it will go back to its evil nature again.

Xing Tianxing: “This solution is a result
of so many years of fighting.
When the CCP feels the crisis from people's resistance,
then it takes the easy way out' approach.
Yet, the social conflicts accumulate over time,
and new leaders will face many problems.”

Xing Tianxing pointed out that the new leaders
may sincerely attempt to solve the problems.
However, CCP' crimes over the past 60 years, are so big,
that maybe even disintegrating the CCP can't solve them.
