Chen Guangcheng’s family threatened for his speech
Blind Chinese human rights activist Chen Guangcheng,
who fled China one year ago, recently introduced the status quo of China's human rights to U.S. Congress.
Consequently, his relatives were harassed
by Chinese authorities.
His brother, Chen Guangfu, received dead chickens,
glass bottles, and stones.
Posters in the street where he lives labeled him "traitor."
Is this part of the CCP’s warning regarding
Chen Guangcheng’s talks overseas?
Below is our analysis.
After returning from a meeting on China’s human rights
and rule of law held in Germany, Chen Guangcheng attended a U.S. Congress hearing
on April 9.
He introduced the current human rights situation in China,
and asked Congress to urge the U.S. government to release its diplomatic
agreement with China regarding himself.
He also urged Chinese authorities to follow its words
and investigate the persecution of he and his family.
In past year, U.S. Congress held four hearings on Chen’s case.
On April 9th, Chen submitted to Congress a list of evil
officials who carried out long-term persecution of he and his family.
He also revealed that in June this year he will visit Taiwan.
However, his family in China received terrorist threats soon
afterward.
April 24, Chen's brother, Chen Guangfu, told NTD that
recently someone kept throwing stones, dead chickens, etc. into his yard.
He believes this is related to Chen’s recent activities.
He said his village held a meeting for CCP members, saying
Chen provided U.S. Congress a blacklist of over 40 people.
They also said Chen promotes independence of Taiwan
and Tibet.
Ever since that day, he hasn’t been at peace.
Chen Guangfu, brother of Chen Guangcheng: “On the night
of April 18th, someone threw dead chickens and ducks into my house.
On the night of the 19th, posters cursing Guangcheng and I
were everywhere on the streets.
On the night of 20th, they again threw stones and dead ducks
into my house, breaking tiles and glasses.
On the 21st, 20 seedlings I planted in the fields were uprooted.
On morning of 22nd, there were again posters in street
against us.
This time the posters criticized not only Guangcheng and I,
but also my fourth brother Chen Guangxin.”
Chen Guangfu said the same thing happened on the night
of the 24th.
Someone climbed over the wall into his yard
and poured beer into their pot.
Mainland activist Hu Jia pointed out that these activities
expose the insidiousness of Chinese Communist officials.
Mainland activist Hu Jia: “When they climb over the wall
into Chen Guangfu’s house, they are about to break into the rooms and beat Chen’s family.
One can imagine that Chen’s family is now living in terror.
CCP uses these local rogues to produce red terror,
and put pressure on Chen Guangfu’s family.
This is a message of warning for Chen Guangcheng
regarding his overseas actions and statements.”
Chen Guangfu said on April 18th that Beijing artist
Ai Weiwei's four assistants went to their village to take pictures of his home.
But local government said that they are Japanese reporters.
Chen Guangfu: “They said I collaborated with
Japanese reporters to stir up trouble in the village.
They called me traitor, and threatened to break my leg.
They also threatened to harm my family.
Their intention is very clear.
Since Guangcheng is out of the country, they can do nothing
about him, so they can only deal with his family.”
Lu Qiumei, human rights activist in Linyi, Shandong
province, pointed out that Chen Guangfu’s entire family is innocent.
His son Chen Kegui is also incarcerated without any crime.
Lu Qiumei, human rights activists in Linyi, Shandong
province: “His family are already suffering from persecution, and the family is already fragmented.
Why would CCP use such debased tricks against them?
These tricks are simply despised by everyone.
Hu Jia pointed out that the CCP relies upon
gang organizations to suppress dissidents and their families.
This has gone beyond the bottom line.
Hu Jia: “If the situation keeps worsening, Chen Guangfu’s
whole family, including his wife, his daughter-in-law and grandchildren, will
all lose personal safety.
Such illegal practices from the authorities will only arouse
more public concern on the issue.
Hu Jia said that the list of 40 officials Chen provided
U.S. Congress with include Zhou Yongkang, former
Secretary of Politics and Law Committee, and Zhang Gaoli,
current Politburo Standing Committee member.
All government officials involved in the persecution should
be investigated and punished in the future.
