A Rare Close-Up of Chinese Leader Xi Jinping

On December 23, the Chinese Communist Party(CCP)'s
mouthpiece media published a series of figure articles
on the new CCP leaders.

Firstly of Xi Jingping—the report released Xi”s family photos
including scenes from his countryside labor days; Xi riding
a bike with his daughter and him with his wife Peng Liyuan.

The outside world says, the CCP is purposefully imitating
Western politicians in order to gain popularity.

However, if they are within the CCP”s system,
can they change the fate of the CCP?

On December 23 the CCP”s mouthpiece media, Xinhua News
published a series of feature articles and lengthy introductions
of the new General Secretary Xi Jinping and the incoming
Prime Minister Li Keqiang.

The 15,000-word article introduces Xi Jinping—primarily
reviewing his growth process and official experience—
telling of his suffering during the Cultural Revolution;
starvation; and of his wandering around and being jailed.

Xi had later taken an initiative to apply to the northern
Shaanxi rural area among other things.

The article "The public are the source of our strength" stresses
that Xi was a grassroots character and cared about people.

Also reported was the declarations Xi made after taking office
including "The people's yearning for a better life, is our goal.”

We asked American social problems researcher Zhang Jian,
“Can Xi Jinping really change the fate of the Chinese people?”

[Zhang Jian American Social Problems Researcher]:
“Xi Jinping is in the CCP”s system and is its defender, so
can he really change the fate of it and of the Chinese people?

—I don”t believe so.

If the CCP system was a ship, one is either a captain
or a sailor; that is the difference between the officials
but no one wants to walk the plank because the ship
carries their common interests."

Internet writer Wu Jianguo thinks such reports can easily
mislead people, making them have expectations of Xi Jinping;
expecting him to maintain social justice and even hoping
that he would stop China”s human rights abuses.

[Wu Jianguo, Network Writer]:
“In my opinion, no matter how much genuine interest Xi has
in reform, if he wants to truly establish a society of justice
and not that of the CCP”s hellish persecution of human rights,
he must abandon the CCP and return the rule to the people.

If Xi acts like Gorbachev and holds the hope of using reform
within the system to achieve his goal, he will fail and also
bury himself; there”ve been many lessons in decades past.”

[Zhang Jian American Social Problems Researcher]:
"Looking at the CCP's brutal history—this regime has killed
people like ants; how can a party leader play a saint”s role
while standing in the position of a dictator?—it”s ridiculous.

Zhang also said that, in 1949, the Xinhua Daily published
lengthy reports about democracy in America and promoted
freedom of the West as a universal human value.

When the CCP came to power in the same year,
it abandoned democracy and began to suppress the people.

[Zhang Jian American Social Problems Researcher]:
“The CCP officials are like wolves dressed in sheep”s skin;
when they are away from the wolf pack, they turn into sheep
and mingle with ordinary people.

But when the public worked very hard and carried the CCP
to the throne, the sheepskins fell off and they became wolves;
then their deprivation of the people began.”

Xinhua News Agency also published a lengthy close-up
of Vice Premier Li Keqiang.

In 2002, Li Keqiang became Henan Provincial Party Secretary
and immediately took the AIDS issue as his primary goal,
carrying out the first national and provincial AIDS survey.

The report also said that in 2004, the momentum of the spread
of AIDS in Henan had been fundamentally curbed.

In actuality, Li Keqiang had applied the usage of blockades
and repression when dealing with the Henan AIDS village.

His actions had raised discussions among outsiders, including
most famous AIDS prevention activist and retired professor
of Traditional Chinese Medicine from Henan College,
Dr. Gao Yiaojie.

After disclosing what she called “China”s blood disaster",
Henan authorities used coercion tactics, targeting Dr. Gao;
tracking, monitoring and subjecting her to house arrest, until
eventually she was forced to flee to the U.S..
