Lawyers Appeal To Withdraw Charges Against Whistleblower
Journalist Liu Hu

China's journalist Liu Hu has been detained in Beijing,
charged with "creating troubles and provocation ".
Liu had blew the whistle on a high-ranking official
over the internet.
His lawyers are now appealing to Beijing police officials
to withdraw the charges against Liu.

On September 4, Radio France Internationale quoted
three Beijing-based lawyers.
They said that the official charges against Liu
are groundless.

They argued that an investigative reporter's
online whistle-blowing is essentially different from spreading rumors.
The investigative reporter is practicing constitutional
watchdog rights, and the rights of a civil servant.
The lawyers note that the police should have launched full
investigations based upon the whistleblower's evidence.
Instead they are punishing him.

Liu Hu is now being held in Beijing First Detention Center.
