Analysts: Celebrity Blogger Xue Manze’s Video Program Was Manipulated

China’s celebrity blogger, Xue Manzi,
Big V (verified internet user) was detained in August
for "hiring a prostitute," and now he was alleged to have had
group sex with prostitutes, committing cyber crimes.
Last week, China’s Central TV (CCTV) broadcast
a video recording about Xue.
It claimed that Xue confessed to the police that
he "felt like an Emperor being a Big V."
However, in the video, the group sex issue
was never mentioned.
Why is that?

Analysts believe that this CCTV program
is absolutely manipulated by the authorities.
Their purpose is to suppress freedom of speech.

On Sept. 15, several Chinese media re-broadcasted
CCTV’s interview about Xue Manzi.
In the video, Xue, with grey hair and glasses,
recalled his journey to becoming an influential online voice.
Xue said that after he became a Big V, he received
more than a thousand posts every day.
He felt like, "a King looking after state affairs."

No reporter is showed on the video.

All topics are related to how Xue spread rumors online
and committed crimes.
The issue of group sex was never mentioned.

Sources said that Xue hopes he is released soon,
which means that he has bowed to the authority.

Yang Zili, co-founder of New Youth Society in Beijing:
"The most important thing is what his pursuit and personal beliefs are.
If he pursues only fame or interests, when he encounters
such pressures, he may not be strong enough to take it.
In order to be released earlier, he could slap his own face
and defame himself.
Finally he may listen to the authorities unconditionally."

Recently, the Beijing regime cracked down
on online rumors.
Besides Xue Manzi, Big V’s Qin Huohuo
and Lier Caisi have been detained.
A national large-scale arrest from Internet
provider companies has taken place.

Yang Zili: "Generally speaking, the Chinese Communist
Party (CCP) certainly needs to crack down on online speech,
as the Internet is the only media that the CCP can’t control
as it wishes.
Apart from implementation of technical measures
on the Internet, the CCP can only arrest people
and throw dissidents into jail so as to create
an atmosphere of terror, then silence everyone."

Why did the regime only allow Xue to confess "Emperor
theory," but not mention his allegation of "hiring a prostitute?"

Hu Jia, Beijing human rights activist: "Xue understood that
the authority picked him as an example.
He just got bad luck this time.
He was selected out of all Big Vs and defamed
so as to silence all Big Vs.
Finally, the CCP’s goal of maintaining stability
can be achieved.
Xue’s video confession plus the CCP’s propaganda
is ideological propaganda.
Under such a condition, Xue likely conformed
to the CCP’s demands.
From this point of view, I think the CCP may
give him a lenient sentence for this exchange."

Many lawyers commented on Weibo social networking site.

Lawyer Lan Libo said, Xue Manze was alleged
to have had group sex with prostitutes.
The initial reason to arrest him has nothing to do with Big V.

Xue talked about the issue of Big V
and has excepted the allegation against him.
Lan Libo believes that the program should focus on Xue’s
allegation of hiring prostitutes then reporting on CCTV.

Lawyer Cui Xiaoping said that Xue was detained for hiring
a prostitute, and continues to be held for crimes of indecency.
Later the authorities claimed Xue was reported on
by netizens and should be charged.
Is this the Chinese-style in dealing with the case?
