On Oct. 10, UK's Telegraph newspaper reported that in 1995,
to help Zurich Insurance break into the Chinese market,
Li Xiaolin introduced executives from Zurich to three Chinese

Zurich deposited $16.9 million into an offshore
Credit Suisse account in the Bahamas.
In return, the three Chinese businessmen agreed to sell
Zurich almost a quarter of the company.
This was four years before it was legal
for foreign firms to make such investment.
The Telegraph obtained court documents and transcripts
showing how the money from Zurich was then used to bribe

Those officials were directly responsible for deciding whether
to allow foreign companies to enter China's financial sector.
The report didn't mention if Li Xiaolin directly
gained profit from the deal.
