Zeng Qinghong's House Property Attracts Concerns
A luxurious house in Sydney, Australia owned by Zeng Wei,
son of Zeng Qinghong, former member of CCP Politburo
Standing Committee and former vice president, was recently
demolished and is being rebuilt, under international attention.
Zeng Qinghong, dubbed as the "second big tiger" by the anti-
corruption campaign in China has raised heated discussions.
Zeng Wei and his wife purchased the luxury house for
$30 million in 2008, according to Australian media.
The couples gained immigration visas through the
investment.
Later, they applied to renovate the house on several
occasions, but the applications were all rejected by the city.
The house, built 106 years ago, is opposite the Sydney Opera
House and Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Zeng Wei planned to spend another $4.5 million to rebuild
the house into a five-story modern concrete building.
The rebuild has caused resentment from local residents.
Ren Baiming, political commentator "There have been reports
about Zeng Wei buying real estate in Australia in recent years.
We know that Zeng Qinghong is under pressure recently.
Many rumors say that he's now under control of [President]
Xi Jinping, and is the second big tiger.
In fact, news of the house is assisting Xi to fight the tiger."
Where does Zeng Wei's wealth come from?
A source close to the Central Discipline Inspection
Commission told Boxun, a US independent Chinese website
that the central investigation task force looking into Zhou
Yongkang's case) found evidence the money is a bribe.
It seems the money Zeng used to purchase the house was
from Jiang Jiemin, former chairman of PetroChina.
The source says Jiang admitted to the task force that he abused
his power by offering money to Zeng Wei to buy the house.
This was to buy favor with Zeng. This information has not
been confirmed by the official report.
Ren Baiming "The current situation is that Zeng Wei
spent over $30 million to buy a house in Australia.
It's recently demolished and being rebuilt,
to the resentment of local citizens.
It seems to be superficial news, but if it is about Zeng
Qinghong's precarious current situation, it is newsworthy.
It makes people think of Zeng's family corruption.
It shows how much money they may have embezzled.
They even can demolish a $30 million house."
U.S. media Epoch Weekly published a story in March titled
"Zeng Qinghong's Son, Zeng We's Track of Sudden Wealth."
The report says someone has described Zeng Qinghong
as "insidious and cunning."
Zeng was one of the masterminds of the crimes committed
by former Party leader Jiang Zemin and his group.
Ren Baiming "When Jiang started persecuting Falun Gong,
Zeng Qinghong was the military advisor.
Zeng came to Beijing from Shanghai to Jiang's assistance.
If such a person is not dealt with, he'll make more trouble.
We've seen several chaotic incidents in Hong Kong that
were operated by Zeng Qinghong behind the scenes.
He wants to make chaos in Hong Kong to reduce
Xi Jinping's power, and to gain time for himself.
He also uses the many apparent terrorist attacks in mainland
China to consume the government's power.
So, Zeng Qinghong, a big tiger, must be sacked.
Otherwise, there will be endless trouble."
Zeng Qinghong followed Jiang Zemin to Beijing
after the June 4 massacre in 1989.
He then served as the deputy director of the General Office
of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Central Committee.
Later, he became a member of the Politburo Committee.
He was the vice president from 2003 to 2008, in charge of
the secret service system inside the party.
Zeng was in charge of Hong Kong and Macao
for a few years after 2003.
In 2010, Hong Kong media published an article "Zeng
Qinghong Family Assets in Multi Billions; Senior Officials
Criticize Zeng As a Hypocrite." The report says a senior
comrades special meeting was held in Beijing on Oct. 9, 2010.
The meeting was how "senior comrades should discipline
their children well to maintain their reputation."
Nearly 30 former members of Politburo Standing Committee
and former military generals attended the meeting.
Wu Fan, political commentator in the US, "Rumors inside the
CCP says Zeng Qinghong didn't discipline his son well.
He let him spend $30 million on a house, when the money
belonged to the nation.
It was the money from the oil system.
Rumor says that they would be criticized in a notification.
But now the chaotic wind is gone, they can rebuild a house.
What does it mean? It means that Xi Jinping's intention of
cracking down on Zeng Qinghong is becoming less.
However, news in February shows that Zeng Wei
came back to China and was put under house arrest.
Wu Fan indicated in the past "the CCP high level has an
agreement that they won't crackdown on big tigers in the
Politburo Standing Committee level." So Zeng Qinghong
under control is just a rumor, he said.
"It would truly count if Zeng Qinghong is put on trial like
disgraced senior official Bo Xilai."
