Tibetan Villagers in Sichuan Suppressed by Authorities -Two Deaths

While the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s official media
were reporting a large number of news items on national unity,

more than 700 Tibetan villagers in Xuba Village,
Sichuan Province were facing life-threatening dangers.

They were arrested for peaceful protests against the authorities.

One person who was shot and wounded by the police died
and another committed suicide protesting the authorities’ violence.

The whereabouts of the other arrested Tibetans remain unknown.

According to RFA, on the morning of August 12
hundreds of Tiben villagers of Zhengki Town, Shiqu County
at Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province,

gathered in front of the local government compound
after a respected local village chief Wangzha was arrested.

They petitioned and shouted slogans such as
“Release innocent Village Leader Wangzha."

The authorities did not respond to their demands and sent
military police to repress them, using tear gas and
live fire.

Two villagers were hit, at least 18 people were injured
and many were arrested.

Many people fled to the mountains to hide.
Their families were interrogated and beaten.
The situation was extremely tense.

On August 17, one of the injured and arrested, villager
Luobaisang committed suicide to protest against the crackdown.

Another 22-year-old Tibetan who was shot, died in custody.
Nearly 30 male villagers are still in custody.
Their hair was shaved.

Reporter Lotus: "There were more than 700 people there.
Many men between age 12 to 60+ are being detained."

RFA reported that the CCP authorities are currently arranging
military police at Zhengke Town of Shiqu County.

They continue to station police forces for strict control.

Tibetans injured by gunshots were forcibly taken away
from the hospital. They are deprived of the right to receive treatment.

Detained Tibetans include Gemarengqing who is in charge of
meditation at the Zhengkexiangmei Temple,

Zhaxiniqia Template and Meiri Template monks and
vice village head Wang Qing at Xuba Village.

It was said that the Tibetan people are locked up at the
Luxu Town prison and some at a new hospital
as the prison did not have enough room.

Currently Xuba Village became quite empty.

Writer lotus: "A group of people were injured and were
sent to a nearby town hospital by the local people.

The military police forbad them from getting medical treatment.

They were sent to Ganba for continuous detention.

I heard Gonggaxire (son of the village head Wangzha)
is in jeopardy as the bullet (that hit him)was not removed yet."

“Tibetan in Exile Association" received a list of
detainees of 25 people, including women.

Currently outsiders cannot get in touch with the detained,

So no one knows how many are locked up nor what
their situation is.

“Tibetan in Exile Association" is concerned about their safety.

Lotus: "I think the CCP government is putting up a show
on one hand to showcase Tibet's economic development
and a harmonious society,

On the other hand, military police and the government simply
resort to violence to suppress any instability or some
minor incidents."

RFA reported that detained village leader Wangzha once
visited officials who banned the traditional Tibetan horse
racing event.

Wangzha refused to accept the statement that
"traditional activities are illegal."

Recently, some female dancers at the Zhuo Dance event
held at the request of the county government
were insulted by some officials.

Wangzha again asked for justice from officials.
The two events caused Wangzha’s arrest on August 11.

In 2012 serious conflicts occurred between
Tibetans and the authorities in Ganzi.

The authorities sent armed police and riot police,
and shot at Tibetans who were demonstrating peacefully,
causing four death and dozens of injuries.

"International Support for Tibetans Organization" said that
at the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama’s last birthday,
some Tibetans who gathered to celebrate were shot by the police.

At least two Tibetans were shot in the head
and at least eight were seriously injured.
