January 17 is the tenth anniversary of the death of former CCP General Secretary, Zhao Ziyang. The Chinese authorities still monitor related people and stop them offering condolences at Zhao Ziyang's home as before.
According to a Radio Free Asia report, Zhao's former secretary Bao Tong said he was notified by the authorities on the 16th not to accept an interview. Bao said, he was beaten by police at Zhao's home because of condolences 10 years ago. Therefore, he won't go to condole on the 17th at Fuqiang alley.
Beijing dissident Hu Jia also said he was under house arrest since the 14th because of the coming tenth anniversary of Zhao Ziyang's death. They don't want him to condole.
However, Beijing petitioners said they would go as previous years to mourn Zhao without fear of interception.
Zhao's relatives revealed that the Chinese authorities still do not allow his ashes buried even though he passed away ten years ago.
The former CCP General Secretary Zhao Ziyang was dismissed and put under house arrest due to his opposition to the forced suppression of the 1989 Tiananmen Incident. However, mainland people respect him greatly.
