Analysts: As Bo's Crimes Are Exposed, Will Xi Put Bo to Death?
Bo Xilai, the former Chongqing party secretary whose fall
caused a political earthquake inside the Chinese Communist
Party (CCP), will be brought to trial at the Intermediate
People's Court in Jinan, Shandong's provincial capital.
Recently, overseas pro-CCP media revealed multiple
shocking facts about Bo's crimes.
This overturns the previous decision that Bo will only face
three 'minor' criminal charges instead of six, including
taking 25 million yuan ($4.1 million) in bribes.
Commentators say that even after CCP leaders
decided to give Bo a lenient sentence, Jiang Zemin’s faction
has remained restless and has kept causing troubles.
Consequently, Xi Jinping was finally forced to erect
his authority using Bo's case.
Recently, overseas pro-CCP media continuously reported
Bo Xilai's core crime of a coup attempt, which the party
had avoided mentioning before.
Relevant articles quickly spread across the internet.
In addition, the most recent reports reveal that Bo owned
two private properties in Beijing opposite to Taoranting Park’s
East and North entrance.
Each of them is worth 300 million yuan ($49.2 million).
On Aug 2, Hong Kong based newspaper Apple Daily quoted
sources saying Bo and his followers had transferred billions
of dollars abroad as part of the immense wealth
they collected with their political power.
It was also reported that Bo used his third private property,
Kailai Hotel, as a place to secretly imprison his opponents.
Lin Zixu, political commentator: “Why were such reports
published before Bo's trial?
On one hand, it can be said it's because some CCP leaders
want to see Bo get the death sentence.
On the other hand, this also shows that they can't do much
to change the situation.
If Bo's house worth 300 million yuan can only be reported
first by oversea media instead of [China's] domestic ones,
we can get an idea about how Bo Xilai will be judged.”
Hua Po, Beijing political affairs observer: “I think Xi Jinping
wants to establish his authority, possibly with Bo Xilai's life.
A death sentence for Bo will serve to scare other
local officials. The key is how tough Xi's measures will be.”
Those on the outside have always thought that Bo Xilai had
been expected by Jiang Zemin's faction to be their next leader.
Jiang's followers are the ones who want Bo to survive most,
as they need Bo to inherit their history of murdering people.
After Bo's public trial was announced, Jiang's faction began to
restlessly act to spare Bo the death sentence.
Analysts say that the CCP is still trying to maintain
an image of legitimate rule.
Therefore they had been afraid to announce Bo's most
astonishing crimes of the large scale murdering of Falun Gong
practitioners, the live harvesting of their organs and the
selling of their corpses for benefits.
Bo had done all these to win Jiang Zemin's favor.
Lin Zixu: “We can say that Bo Xilai is a most typical 'product'
of the CCP's regime.
Although the current party leaders seem to hold great
power in hand, they can't do much with this power
if they stay within the CCP's framework.
The real 'big tiger' to deal with is exactly the CCP's
regime itself, and Bo Xilai is its 'tiger cub'.
How can it be possible if someone wants to kill
a tiger cub under the protection of the parent tiger?”
As the new chairman of China's Central Military Commission,
Xi Jinping promoted six officials to generals on Aug 1st.
Commentators say Xi's move was to prevent any
political coup and solidify his alliances.
In addition, Zhou Yongkang, the former head of the CCP's
Central Political and Legislative Affairs Committee,
has become the target of the current leaders.
Following the fall of Zhou's secretary, Guo Yongxiang,
it was reported on Aug 3rd that, Wu Bing,
another of Zhou's trusted followers,
was arrested upon attempting to escape Beijing.
Wu had embezzled tens of billions of state-owned
properties for Zhou's family.
Gu Junshan, the former deputy commander of
the PLA's General Logistics Department,
was part of the corruption chain of Jiang Zemin,
Zeng Qinghong and Zhou Yongkang in the army.
Gu was removed from his post in 2012.
On Aug 2nd, the PLA for the first time
made official comments on Gu's corruption case.
This was followed by a large number of reports
from the party's media.
At the same time, Gu's younger brother Gu Xianjun is now
also being pursued by the police through its internal network.
Outsiders have read the attacks against Gu Junshan and
Zhou Yongkang as Xi Jinping's strong response to the defiance
showed by Jiang's faction in the Bo Xilai's case.
Hua Po, Beijing political affair observer, says that
even without a death sentence, Bo will never
get out of prison while living.
Hua Po: “I think Xi Jinping won't let Bo get out of prison alive.
Think about The Gang of Four.
Wang Hongwen was healthy and only in his thirties when he
was jailed, yet, he turned out to be the first to die in prison.”
According to a report by Epoch Weekly, the PLA's General
Logistics Department is a core institution in carrying out live organ harvesting.
As its former deputy commander, Gu Junshan can hardly
be absolved from responsibility.
