CCTV Producer Reveals Truth after Being Fired

Producer Wang Qinglei for the program “24 Hours” on
China's communist regime's mouthpiece, China Central TV,
has been fired because of a few honest words he posted online.

Subsequently, another post by Mr. Wang entitled,
"Farewell CCTV," caused a great sensation on the web.

Wang Qinglei, producer of CCTV program “24 Hours”,
has been a sports reporter, he's hosted The Sounds of Huaxia
at Central Broadcasting Station, been a reporter for CCTV
Newsweek, and has been an editor of News 1+1.

On the evening of Dec. 1, Mr. Wang said on his Sina Weibo
that he had left CCTV on Nov. 27.
His article entitled, "Farewell CCTV – some 'honest words'
on our time,” explained how he was let go and
his decade of experience at the CCTV.

According to Mr. Wang, a few honest words are the reason
why he was fired.
His words violated the CCTV regulations on
microblogging and discipline.

Mr. Wang says his being fired serves as a warning to others.

When the CCP cracked down on “internet rumors” in August,
Mr. Wang posted online, questioning CCTV's role as the
“national mainstream media.”

He says it has no right to use footage and commentary to
draw guilty conclusions on people, and goes beyond the law.

From "24 Hours" to "Face to Face," Mr. Wang says
his daily task was brainstorming how to get approval on the
program topics, and how to keep his tightrope walking
colleagues out of trouble.

Speaking of his decade of experience at CCTV,
Mr. Wang wrote: "It was an ever increasing suffering.
Our topics based on news standards were killed over and
over again, and so were our voices and expressions.
For journalists, it's such a cruel and restrictive reality!"

Mr. Wang wrote: "Each year, we receive thousands of
'news caliber stories,'” which are forbidden.
He reminded the executives, “With so much news that's not
allowed to be covered, no one will believe the ones that are.”

Mr. Wang also questioned: "What kind of system is it that
doesn't allow one bit of truth?” “What kind of system is it
that provides security to power, money, and connections,
but kills insistence on thought and beliefs?"

Commentator Xia Xiaoqiang says that Mr. Wang's case
reflects the journalists'status quo under CCP rule.

Xia Xiaoqiang, commentator: "Under the rule of the CCP,
the media no longer carries out its social responsibilities,
but serves to brainwash for the CCP.

The majority of journalists are forced to become the
CCP's thugs and accomplices to maintain its political agenda.
Those who still keep their moral conscience and journalistic
ethics, or refuse to lie for the regime are suppressed,
and Wang Qinglei is one of them"

Before Mr. Wang's honest reflection was quickly blocked
by Sina, it was already being widely discussed online among
many famous Chinese people, scholars, and media persons.

Mr. Xia, a CCTV documentary writer: "He (Wang Qinglei) is
a producer with a good knowledge in news and business.
It is unfortunate for him. His case is a signal,
and also a new phenomenon CCTV has to face."

Yang Weidong, an independent Chinese filmmaker:
"He has been pushed to the bottom line and
could no longer ignore his conscience.

He can sense that telling the truth is very difficult."

A netizen responded: “A salute to the journalist who sacrifices
to uphold truth and justice!”

Xia Xiaoqiang says the two main social responsibilities
of the media are to disclose information and be a watchdog.
He says China has a large number of conscientious journalists
fighting against the CCP's news system in various ways,
and they are the hope for the future of Chinese media.
