Network Control: Two Large Mainland Compilation Websites Banned

Websites renrenys and shooter are well-known Mainland
distribution centers for Western films.
These sites have films with subtitle
translations for Mainland users.
Many western films are found here.
However, the two websites coincidentally closed.
Mainlanders have to cooperate with the broadcast mechanism
after censorship from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)
State Administration of Radio, Film and Tv (SARFT)
in order to watch foreign movies.

Famous Chinese subtitle websites Renrenys and Shooter
shut down simultaneously.

On Nov. 22, Renrenys suddenly announced,
“The website is under construction.
We appreciate your love and support.

Please pay attention to our microblog.

It has been seven years since our website established
in 2004 by a group of international students in Canada.
We appreciate your company these years."

A few hours later, the shooter website also announced that,
"the era for the shooter is gone.

Today, our website officially closed."

Internet freedom watcher Ye Du: "It should be related
to strengthening the ideology control.
The US ideology of beliefs, values, freedom and equality
are in conflict with the CCP's taking over the Internet;
and that's the deepest reason they were banned."

It's analyzed that most foreign films have democracy values,
namely freedom, equality, constitutionalism, rule of law
and other consultations.

However, these are incompatible with CCP ideology.

So it is impossible to come into China via
the formal channels.

Cultural critic Ye Kuang: "China's acquiescence
to pirated editions these years indeed hurt
the intellectual property rights from Western countries."

Ye Du: "The reality is there is a highly stressful ideology
situation in China."

It is said the reason Renrenys subtitle group was established
is due to Western TV programs having to pass a complicated
investigation and content review from CCP, which resulted
in slow down and less imports.
Most imported movies have been cut and tampered.

It's hard for most Chinese to understand the original
version with poor English even if they can access it.
And that's the reason for such transport culture appearance.

Ye Du: "Most Chinese people love US TV;
but know limited English.
The subtitles via the Internet solved the problem."

It's speculated that the shut down of the website
is due to copyright issues.
However, some analysts point out that compared
to the pirated editions, the more critical problem
is a severely strict audit system by authorities.

Ye Du: "We noticed that the overall tightening of the Internet
has spread to all areas this year.
Didn't the CCP propose to seize the high ground
of the Internet last year?"

According to an Apple Daily report, the SARFT put pressure
on Renrenys because their programs haven't been censored.
However, they can be banned even with copyright like
the banned Sohu video drama Big Bang Theory.

Because of the limited entertainment and banned subtitles
by the SARFT, someone criticized it as a totalitarian
brainwashing, mind control war.
