Analysis: North Korea Recalls Expatriates In China For Cleaning

After the execution of North Korea’s second most powerful
man, Jang Song-thaek, the Pyongyang government
summoned its officials and businessmen in China
back home.
It is said to be a crack down on those loyal
to Jang Song-thaek.

Sources told South Korean news agency Yonhap that
North Korea has summoned back business people working
in the Chinese cities of Shenyang and Dandong.

According to another source, Norea Korea plans to summon
all of its officials and staff from China in stages, said Yonhap.

Liu Yinquan, Chairman of Anti-Political-Persecution Alliance
of China: "I believe the Kim Jong-un regime is going to purge
these people.

According to my research and understanding of North Korea,
those summoned officials and businessmen are likely
to be jailed and even executed."

Coincidentally, a Korean ethnic group commentator,
Han Zhiyou, also wrote, "It is expected that those expatriate
officials and businessmen who were summoned back
to North Korea are likely to be killed," and
"They went abroad only because of a connection to Jang."

Liu Yinquan: "That’s what the Communist Party will do.

The downfall of a political figure will result in a cleansing
of those below him.
Those who Jang Song-thaek had interacted with or managed
such as embassy officials and businessmen
are subjected to the cleansing."

Commentator Lan Su says that Kim Jong-un recalling
officials and businessmen is for the purpose of ensuring
that his command is followed.

Lan Su, commentator: "I believe the main reason
for Kim Jong-un to summon those Koreans is to ensure
the relationship between Pyongyang and Beijing,
which is essential to the continued stability of Kim’s regime.
He needs to clean those who are currently in Beijing
to make sure all personnel in Beijing from now on
only execute businesses according to his will."

In addition, Pyangyong announced on Dec. 13 Jang’s crimes –
rebellion, anti-party, seizing power, and endangering
a supreme leader.

The Korea Herald Business reported that the reason Jang was
purged in such a merciless fashion was because he is suspected
of having connections to Kim Jong-nam, Kim Jong-un’s
brother, an anonymous source told the newspaper.

Yonhap previously reported that since becoming leader
two years ago, Kim Jong-un has attempted to assassinate
his oldest brother two times, but his plans failed however
because of intervention by Jang Song-thaek.

Kim Jong-nam is Kim Jong Il's eldest son born
to the late actress Song Hye-rim.
Kim Jong Un's aunt, Jang’s wife, Kim Kyong-hui
had helped care for the young Kim Jong-nam.
Jang Song-thaek had also provided care to Kim Jong-nam.

Therefore, Jang had treated Kim Jong-nam as his own son,
especially after the death of their biological daughter.

Yoji Gomi, Senior Staff Writer, Tokyo Shimbun, and author
of “My Father, Kim Jong Il, and I: Kim Jong-nam’s
Exclusive Confession,” had more than 150 email
correspondences with Kim Jong-nam between 2004 and 2011.
He also told the media that Jang Song-taek had treated
him like his own son.

Lan Su: "It is said that Jang Song-thaek had helped
Kim Jong-un’s half brother, Kim Jong-nam,
who Kim Jong-un considers a threat.

The Chinese Communist regime is also using Kim Jong-nam
to control Kim Jong-un.
The cleaning of these overseas Koreans is also to ensure
none of them get too close to Kim Jong-nam."

Yoji Gomi also revealed that after Jang Song-thaek
was sacked, security around Kim Jong-nam
in Beijing has increased.

Han Zhiyou wrote that in 1997, when Hwang Jang-yop,
former Secretary of the Workers Party of Korea,
defected to South Korea via Beijing,
hundreds of thousands of Koreans were either killed
or sent to labor camps.
They were his students, family, and friends.
He believed that with the downfall of Jang Song-thaek
on charges of treason, there will also be an estimated
hundreds of thousands people implicated.
